Taming the Complaint Loop

How to identify and resolve recurring or ‘stuck’ complaints

Commences: Monday, August 24, 2026

We all have complaints. About workload, colleagues, decisions, or how things are done.

A complaint in itself is not the problem. It can be a useful signal that something matters and may need attention.

The difficulty comes when the same complaint shows up again and again, without anything changing. We talk about it with others, think about it repeatedly, and carry the frustration with us. Over time, it can become part of how we see a person or situation.

In these moments, it can feel like the issue sits outside our control. The conversation that might move things forward feels difficult, or not worth the risk. So nothing changes.

What’s often missing is a way to recognise when a complaint has become a loop, and a way to respond that restores a sense of agency.

What you’ll develop

In this course, you will develop the ability to:

  • Recognise when a complaint has become a repeating pattern rather than a one-off issue
  • Distinguish between what is within your control and what is not, and respond accordingly
  • Shift a complaint into a clear request, a concrete action, or a deliberate decision to let it go
  • Notice the impact of holding onto a complaint, including the cost to your energy, relationships, and effectiveness
  • Take responsibility for moving a situation forward, rather than staying stuck in the story
