Follow up without the fuss
Turn uncomfortable check-ins into clear, respectful conversations.
Commences: Monday, July 20, 2026
Once a request has been made and a commitment negotiated, the work is underway.
But that doesn’t mean it will unfold as expected. In practice, people tend to go one of two ways. Some check in frequently, leaning toward micromanaging in an effort to stay on top of things. Others step back and hope it will come together, only to find out later that things are not as far along as they thought.
What’s often missing is a simple way to stay connected to the commitment as the work progresses, so that both people remain on the same page about whether things are on track.
Without that, it becomes harder to see how things are really going. Conversations tend to happen later than they should, and issues only become visible when delivery is close — or already missed.
When we shift from following up to having conversations for progress, there is no need to chase or check in awkwardly. With a clear approach, these conversations can be straightforward and useful, helping people stay aligned, adjust as needed, and avoid surprises.

- Establish a simple structure for these conversations so others come prepared to report on their progress
- Support accountability in a way that builds trust and higher performance, rather than pressure or avoidance
